2026 San Mateo City Council Candidate Questionnaires

San Mateo voters in Districts 1, 3, and 5 will elect City Council members on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Mail-in ballots are arriving now. To help voters understand where candidates stand on transportation, Move San Mateo invited every council candidate to answer two questionnaires. Their responses are published below exactly as submitted.

How this was done

Move San Mateo questionnaire. Our members crowdsourced the questions, which focus on San Mateo’s local transportation and street safety issues. View the blank questionnaire.

Regional questionnaire. Move San Mateo partnered with Seamless Bay Area and Transbay Coalition on a questionnaire sent to candidates across the Bay Area.

Outreach. We sent both questionnaires to all 7 San Mateo City Council candidates on September 17, with a response deadline of September 30. Every candidate received the same invitation and follow-up.

Neutrality. Move San Mateo does not endorse candidates. We publish responses as submitted, without editing or scoring.

Late responses. We will post any responses received after publication here, noting the date we received them.

We thank every candidate who took the time to respond. Engaging seriously with these questions takes real time and effort.
